The Norwich Fire Department provides fire prevention, fire suppression and rescue services utilizing full-time professional firefighters. These dedicated fire professionals respond from quarters when an emergency occurs.

The response time to an emergency with on-duty firemen in the stations is approximately 2 minutes. When an emergency occurs, every second makes a difference and we pride ourselves on a rapid response with well-coordinated, highly trained crew.

Headquarters located at 10 North Thames Street , Norwich , CT. 06360

Station 2 (Greeneville) located at 446 North Main Street , Norwich , CT. 06360

Our emergency response vehicles include four Class
A fire engines, two Tower ladders, three marine units, a HumVee brush firefighting truck, a Hazardous Materials Decontamination trailer with Prime Mover, a portable Foam unit, and two command vehicles. We also utilize state-of-the-art equipment to save lives and to reduce the property damaged by fire, including thermal imaging cameras and automatic defibrillators. Our personnel are an excellent combination of mission ready, NFPA certified and HazMat trained graduates of the Connecticut Fire Academy as well as veteran firefighters.

The Norwich Fire Department is part of the Connecticut Eastern Regional Response Team (CERRIT), and responds to approximately 2700 fire, hazmat, and rescue emergencies annually and is involved in an additional 200-300 prevention/public education events annually.

Our service area is approximately 3.5 square miles serving 51 % of the City’s entire 38,000 resident population. We have agreements with other surrounding fire departments that allow us to call in help from other communities for large-scale emergencies.

We are committed to and pride ourselves on being the best guarantee the City of Norwich has to offer in emergency services for our residents, businesses, and visitors. Please let us know how we can help you.
